Vang Vieng

We took a bus from Vientiane to Vang Vieng (5h-115,000KIP). We were not very sure about going there at first as the lonely planet give a « bad » image of this city, it looked like that was the place where all the foreigners were going to take drugs and party very hard.

Afin de nous rendre vers notre nouvelle destination, nous avons pris un bus depuis Vientiane (5h-115,000KIP) direction Vang Vieng. Au premier abord, nous n’étions pas certain de nous y rendre car d’après le guide les principales activités étaient les fêtes et drogues.

Our first impression was actually were good ! We arrived in this very small town surrounded by huge and very greenish mountains with a river separating the town in two sides, just amazing ! And most of the tourists were people from South Korea therefore coming more to have outside activities than do take drugs.

Et finalement nous avons été agréablement surpris ! La ville fut complétement différente de ce que nous imaginions. Imaginez une petite ville au pied de montagne verdoyante, séparé en deux par une rivière, tout simplement magnifique ! La ville fut en effet assez touristique. Ce qui nous a également plu, fut le nombre impressionnant d’activités sportive : Escalade, Rafting, Canoë, Grottes, Tubing, Montgolfière, Vélo, Trek ….

We planned only to stay here for 2 days which was quite a deception for Raphael who wanted to stay more but we had a special planning for Luang Prabang so we couldn’t stay more.

Malheureusement nous y sommes restés que 2 jours, ce qui déçu Raphael mais malheureusement nous avions un planning assez serrez, vu que nous devions obtenir nos visa du Vietnam à Luang Prabang.

Anyway we had a lot of fun, we did a half day excursion around the city. We had a local guide only for us who was super nice and very interesting and actually dreamed about being an international guide as it is more money and more freedom for him. We began our day by walking around some villages where again Raphael helped the locals by cutting a tree

Néanmoins, nous avons tout de même passé un super moment et avons profité d’une demi journée d’activités à quelques km de la ville en compagnie d’un guide locale.

Nous avons pas mal discutés avec le guide qui nous a confié vouloir un jour devenir guide international : un job qui rapporte plus et moins fatiguant en comparaison de celui qu’il exerce actuellement.

Nous avons commencé notre journée pars visiter les villages alentours où Raphael a encore aidé les locaux à couper du bois :)

We continued our day by going to a cave where we made « tubbing », for the one that do not know what is it ; it actually consiste by going inside a cave or on a river with a rubber ring. I know it actually sounds like fun but when the water is as cool as the one in Greenland and the cave is super dark then it’s a bit less (at least for me, not for Raphael). I told Raphael we should have go for the kayak part instead.

Nous nous sommes ensuite rendus vers une grotte où nous avons fait du « tubbing », ce qui consiste à traverser une rivière ou courant d’eau se trouvant dans une grotte sur une bouée. A première abord ca paraît assez fun néanmoins, lorsque l’on a la moitié du corps immergé dans une eau glacé et que l’on traverse une grotte complètement noir ça l’ai un peu moins ! Du moins pour moi, Raphael lui s’amusait beaucoup.

After this fun part we visited the elephant cave which I have to say is far from being interesting but the funny part is that the monks used the american bombs as as bell to call people to the service.

Enfin, nous avons visités une dernière grotte nommée : la grotte éléphant qui selon mon opinion ne valait pas vraiment le détour. Toutefois, une chose intéressante, fut une tête d’obus utilisée comme dong permettant au moines d’appeler les villageois à prier.
